We can't believe that it's been a month since we all gathered together at the beautiful Embercombe site for our first ever SEND Outdoors Conference! We just wanted to touch base today to thank each and every one of you for attending the day.
We hope that you found it useful, enjoyable and informative and that you left feeling refreshed and enthused for the work you do with autistic and SEND learners. Thank you to everyone that gave us feedback on the event, it was really great to hear your thoughts on the day so that we can make sure that next time we run it, we are meeting the needs and requirements of those attending and making it as valuable an event as possible.

SENCo Networking Events
Above all, we are passionate about community at The Outdoors Group. That is why earlier this year we decided to start hosting networking events for SENCo’s from around the Southwest region to attend free of charge.
These coffee and chat events in our woodlands around Devon provide an opportunity for those working with SEND learners to gather together for a relaxed cuppa, whilst also providing a networking opportunity and the chance to share knowledge.
Each time, we have a representative from the company who we hope is also able to facilitate skill development and an understanding of how outdoor education can help support those attending in the work they do.

In this episode I was delighted to be joined by Michael James, author of Forest School and Autism, and Andy Smith, founder of Spectrum Gaming. We discussed the benefits of Forest School for neurodiverse children and young people, the similarities between good Forest School practise and good autism practice, the biggest myths about autism that they wanted to dispel and why the outdoors is so important to them.
