All Change!

If you follow us on social media, you might be aware that recently, one area of our business has undergone a rebranding of sorts. We thought we’d take a bit of time today to unpack what’s changed, why, and more importantly, what’s in the pipeline for this exciting area of the work we do.

What’s in a name?

The headline here is that we’ve renamed our Transitional Learning Programme. As of the start of the Autumn term, this area of our business became ‘Alternative Outdoor Provision’. But why?

Simply put, because it was becoming apparent that people weren’t quite sure what TLP meant and what it was. By renaming this provision, we have made it abundantly clear what we’re offering; the name is quite literally on the tin! We are offering alternative provision in an outdoor environment. We hope that by simplifying the name of this provision, it makes us more accessible to parents and educators looking for an option to support young people who may be struggling in their main educational setting.

New Sites

At the same time as our name change, we were also thrilled to announce that we’ve opened two new sites for our Alternative Outdoor Provision! The new sites, located in Cann Woods (near Plymouth) and Honiton, have both been set up by our absolute babes in the Operations team and staff are already working at them with young people.  We’re really glad to be able to widen the geographical area we can serve and hope to build some really positive relationships with local schools in both areas.

Expanding Our Provision

Most excitingly though (or at least we think so!) is the development and expansion of the provision that AOP offers. Our new Head of AOP, Nigel Stanley, has been working hard behind the scenes since he started in April to put together a fantastic programme of options that we can offer to support neurodivergent young people and those with SEN. These include:

  • Nature-Based Play Therapy
  • Autism and Mental Health Consultancy
  • CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy)
  • Therapeutic Mentoring
  • Collaborating with The Outdoors School to offer outreach work in local schools

We hope that by offering these specialist support services, we will be able to continue with our mission of levelling the playing field for young people in Devon and further afield. We want every young person to be able to take ownership of their learning journey, to feel listened to and supported and ultimately, to thrive.
